Welcome repeat
Stephen Johnson’s Building a Library survey of Brahms’s Clarinet Quintet recordings reminded me of an occasion in the Philharmonic Hall, Liverpool when Jack Brymer took part in a recording of this work for BBC Radio 3. A number of us were invited to sit in the audience. Unfortunately, the final movement was interrupted by the sound of a siren of an ambulance or fire engine. Much to the delight of those present, we were asked if we would mind if the movement could be recorded again! I wonder if the BBC still has this recording in the archives? Geoff Woodcock, Liverpool The editor replies: Stephen’s Building a Library on Brahms’s Quintet has proved a particularly popular one. We are always open to suggestions of works that you’d like to see us feature in this series, so do feel free to drop us a note.
