Steam-powered VW proves just the Job
From car parks to castle keeps, venues for classical music concerts are getting ever more inventive. Such as the Eden Campus Energy Centre in Fife, home to a large a boiler that, fuelled by sustainable biomass, heats the buildings of the nearby University of St Andrews. And at the end of June, said boiler will provide the backdrop to Madeleine Dring’s Cupboard Love and Vaughan Williams’s Riders to the Sea, as the university’s Byre Opera company takes to the stage there. A great idea, though we’d like to see the Vaughan Williams boiler theme taken further. How about performances of his Biomass in G minor, or even the Fantasia on a Steam by Thomas Tall-hissssss…?
