The Flanders Symphony Orchestra
The Flanders Symphony Orchestra prepares to welcome the brilliant Kristiina Poska as its next chief conductor, the latest in a long line of outstanding Estonian maestros
Composed of highly committed and passionate musicians and led by renowned conductors, the Flanders Symphony Orchestra both performs and creates new compositions and gives electrifying renditions of the main symphonic repertoire from the classical period onwards. From the 201920 concert season, Kristiina Poska will be the new chief conductor of the Flanders Symphony Orchestra following in the footsteps of, among others, Seikyo Kim and Jan Latham-koenig.
The internationally renowned Poska, born in Türi, Estonia, made her acclaimed first appearance with the Flanders Symphony Orchestra last season, when she conducted a programme of works by Stulens, Beethoven, and Schubert.
Kristiina Poska will make her debut as chief conductor of the Flanders Symphony Orchestra in Bruges on Thursday 3 October 2019, when she will open the season with two major works by Brahms (the Double Concerto and his Symphony No. 2). The programme will be repeated in Antwerp, Ostend, Brussels and Ghent.
The Flanders Symphony Orchestra has the support of the Flemish government and the City of Ghent, and has been the orchestra in residence in Ghent’s De Bijloke Music Centre since 2017. Ghent has been the twin city of Tallin since 1982.
