Minster thief pipes up after 50 years of silence

A missing organ pipe has been returned to York Minster, 50 years a er it was stolen by a German tourist. Klaus Weber, 72, recently got in touch with cathedral sta to say that he was in possession of the pipe, which one of his friends had nicked for a dare from an exhibition back in 1969. Though Weber says he disapproved at the time, he nonethelees agreed to keep hold of the filched item for, say, a decade or five. Though the pipe is unlikely to be put back in the organ, York Minster has welcomed its return with gratitude.
