A love of Bruckner

I greatly enjoyed Tom Service’s Listening Service column on ‘Let’s hear it for Bruckner’ (October). It all rings true. When I tell people that Bruckner is my favourite composer, they complain about the length of his symphonies. I point out that apart from the Eighth (80 minutes) and the Fifth (slightly shorter), the rest are about an hour or even less.

Besides, when I first listened to his symphonies in the 1970s, the length did not matter. I just let the music wash over me. Peter Coe, Middlesex
