Stamping grounds
I’m sure I will not be alone in thinking we should lobby the Royal Mail to redress the list of landmark classical music anniversaries that have been missed on British stamps in recent years. What an outrage for Elgar to be snubbed twice in his major anniversary years – first his 150th birth anniversary in 2007 and now the centenary year of the premiere of his Cello Concerto. The centenary of the death of Parry last year would have also been a wonderful opportunity for an issue on patriotic anthems, such as Parry’s Jerusalem and Elgar’s ‘Land of Hope and Glory’.

A set of commemorative stamps celebrating British classical music would be a great idea, and we’re glad to start the campaign here.
