Rising Stars
Three to look out for…
Caspar Singh Tenor
Born: Hemel
Hempstead, UK
Career highlight:
My first season at the opera studio of the Bavarian State Opera, participating in major performances, concerts, recitals and masterclasses.
Musical hero: As a young tenor myself, my hero has to be Jonas Kaufmann. I performed alongside him last season and it was a wonderful learning experience.
Dream concert: Elgar’s The Dream of Gerontius is one of my grandad’s favourite pieces of music, so I’d love to sing it for him at the Royal Albert Hall. I live in Munich, so it would be a great opportunity to return to perform in the UK.
Sofia Larsson Soprano
Born: Nairobi, Kenya Career highlight:
Singing the role of Donna in Handel’s Rinaldo at Glyndebourne as one of the Orchestra of the
Age of Enlightenment’s rising stars.
Musical hero: Steven Maughan is a true musician, magical vocal coach and sensitive pianist, whose understanding of the voice, love for music and humility in front of the score gives me so much inspiration.
Dream concert: One in which my voice has no limits, where I’m able to be completely emotionally open and, along with the musicians around me, feel as though anything can happen. That ‘dream concert’ situation is what I aim for every time I walk on stage.
Pablo Ferrández Cellist
Born: Madrid, Spain Career highlight:
A few milestones would be playing Dvo ák with Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl, Brahms Double Concerto with Anne-sophie Mutter and the London Philharmonic, and Saintsaëns with Daniele Gatti and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra.
Musical hero: Pianist Martha Argerich – she is from another world!
Dream concert: I’ve been so lucky to have played with many of my living idols, but I would love to play a concert with Beethoven himself at the piano. That would be a lifechanging experience.
