We reveal who’s recording what and where...
Cellist Raphael Wallfisch teams up with the London Mozart Players this year to record two concertos by Bernhard Romberg, a contemporary of Beethoven. The recording, for CPO, will follow their live performances of his Cello Concertos Nos 4 and 6 at Cellofest in London at the beginning of March.
The San Francisco Symphony’s label,
SFS Media, has launched a new ‘Digital Concert Series’ on Apple Music and all major streaming/download platforms. Marking music director Michael Tilson Thomas’s
25th and final season with the orchestra, the service will quickly expand to give listeners access to new live recordings just a month a er the performances.
New music is very much at the heart of what PARMA Recordings is all about, and with their ‘Call for Scores’ initiative the Usbased label group (which includes Navona and Ravello Records) identifies and records music by up-and-coming composers. New music has recently been recorded in New York, Zagreb and Prague with musicians including cellist Thomas Mesa, the Kühn Choir and Zagreb Festival Orchestra.
Odradek Records has a busy release schedule, with discs planned by pianists Muriel Chemin – who recorded Beethoven’s complete piano sonatas at the label’s own studio last year – and Javier Negrin. Negrin also recorded Beethoven, performing the Violin Concerto with the Beethoven Philharmonie at Raiding’s Liszt Centre recently. Both are scheduled for May/june.
The Prague Spring Festival celebrates its 75th anniversary this year and to mark the milestone it will release a collection of archive recordings from the festival’s early years, courtesy of Czech radio. Prague Spring Festival – Gold Edition, Vol. 1 will include Josef Suk’s first public performance of Dvo ák’s Violin Concerto and the Czech premiere of Martin ’s First Symphony.
