The Royal Opera House brings in Beethoven’s 250th anniversary year with a sold-out new production of the great composer’s only opera. Its starry cast includes Lise Davidsen and Jonas Kaufmann in the leading roles.

Radio 3 pays tribute to female composers on 8 March, beginning at 1am with works by women played throughout the night. Highlights on the day include the premiere of a choral work by seven female composers including Cecilia Mcdowall and Rhian Samuel (see p17).
