Egyptian soprano, and former BBC New Generation Artist, Fatma Said has recorded her debut album for Warner Classics in Berlin. Called El Nour (Light) it unites music from across di erent cultures, with Said performing art songs by French, Spanish and Egyptian composers, plus popular and folk songs sung in Arabic.

Deutsche Grammophon has announced the exclusive signing of South Korean soprano Hera Hyesang Park. The 31-yearold lyric coloratura singer is working on a ‘self portrait’ debut album, which will be released at the end of the year. She marked the signing with a special performanc­e from Berlin’s Meistersaa­l as part of one of the label’s ‘Musical Moment’ virtual recitals.

Staying in South Korea, cellist Heeyoung Lim follows her 2018 debut album for Sony Classical with a new disc of works by Rachmanino­v and Prokofiev. Russian

Cello Sonatas brings together works born out of tumultuous times in the lives of both composers, and is set for release this summer.

Odradek Records has launched an ambitious three-year project to record the entire Gregorian Chant repertoire. The Neumz project sees recordings by the nuns of Provence’s Abbey of Notre-dame de Fidélité de Jouques paired with original notation and words, translated into the user’s language. There will be the equivalent of 7,000 discs worth of music available to discover, with an IOS and Android app planned later in 2020.

Cellist Redi Hasa’s story is a remarkable one and it is to be brought to life on his debut album for Decca. The Stolen Cello recounts Hasa’s escape from civil war in Albania, clutching the precious cello he had borrowed from Tirana Conservato­ry. All the pieces are composed by Hasa himself and performed on the very instrument he fled with. The album is released in September.
