Mulvey last year. Great Women has recently been recorded in a Dublin studio by singer Elizabeth Hilliard and will be released in June on Métier. The work, for voice and electronics, celebrates notable Irish women.
Norwegian violinist Vilde Frang is in the midst of a new recording project for Warner Classics. She performs concertos by Beethoven and Stravinsky with the Bremen Chamber Philharmonic under Pekka Kuusisto. The musicians began recording at the ensemble’s home venue in January where they’ll return in May to finish the album, ahead of release later in the year.
Staying with the violin, Itamar Zorman has been recording a very personal set of pieces at Duke University’s Baldwin Hall in North Carolina, US. Hidden Gems will bring together lesser-known repertoire for violin and piano that the musician highlighted during his livestreamed concerts in 2020. Pianists Ieva Jokubaviciute and Kwan Yi join him for works by composers including Bacewicz, Revueltas and Gao Ping.
Pianist Lara Downes has launched a new recording series called Rising Sun Music, which aims to reframe classical music history by celebrating 200 years of black composers. The first of the monthly digital EPS, Remember Me to Harlem, was released in February and features works by Margaret Bonds, William Grant Still, Eubie Blake and Benny Golson.
Decca has announced the signing of British tenor Freddie De Tommaso. The prizewinning 27 year-old sets out his stall on a debut album to be released in April. Called Passione, the selection honours Tommaso’s Italian roots with a celebratory nod to the centenary of his hero Franco Corelli.
