Malko maestro

One suspects that Dmitry Matvienko will be keeping an eye on the ‘positions vacant’ board with extra interest from now on, as the Belarusian conductor has just enhanced his CV by winning the Malko Competition 2021 in Copenhagen. It was Matvienko’s command of Stravinsky’s Firebird in particular that impressed the Malko jury and helped the 30-year-old maestro towards a 20,000 euro (£17,000) prize and a fistful of concert appointments.
