Turkish violist Beste Tiknaz Modiri and Ecuadorian pianist Andrés Añazco have recorded an album of works by Turkish composers. The landmark project includes premiere recordings of music by Yalçin Tura, Melisa Uzunarslan and Ayça Kocatürk, either written for the duo or arranged by them. Musical Concepts is set to release it.

Deutsche Grammophon recently announced the signing of composer-artist duo Hania Rani and Dobrawa Czocher.

Rani, a pianist, singer and composer, and Czocher, a cellist, have enjoyed much success in their native Poland as well as notable appearances on recordings by other DG artists. The label plans to reissue their popular Polish disc Bie a flaga ahead of a brand new album.

Linn Records has been enjoying a busy summer of recording, with sessions both up north and down south in recent weeks. The quartet L’apothéose made its mark on works by Stamitz in York, while violinist Jonian Ilias Kadesha visited the church of St Martin’s East Woodhay in Newbury to record Bach, Biber and Kurtág. The latter’s Ballet for a Lonely Violinst is out in early 2022.

Violinist Jack Liebeck was at Henry Wood Hall in London recently to record Ysaÿe’s complete sonatas for Orchid Classics, due out in October. The label is also to release a new and eclectic disc from the Solem Quartet. Recorded at Stapleford Granary in Cambridgeshire, it features everything from Thomas Adès to Bartók and Kate Bush.

Chen Reiss has been back in the studio for Onyx Classics, this time with violinist Arabella Steinbacher and Munich’s Jewish Chamber Orchestra. Their programme of works by Felix and Fanny Mendelssohn, including Lieder and overtures, was recorded at the city’s famous Bavaria Studios and is set for release in February 2022.
