More for the Chopin list

Further recent recordings

Beatrice Rana’s new Chopin album is just one of several recordings to be released this summer, with plenty of other pianists wrapping their fingers around his keyboard works.

Harmonia Mundi followed its June release of Complete Nocturnes by Alain Planès (see review, p87) with a set of Sonatas and Mazurkas from

Javier Perianes

(left) in July – we’ll look at that in next month’s issue. Also being reviewed in the October issue is a pair of Deutsche Grammophon Chopin releases: Alice Sara Ott presents Echoes of Life, which sees her framing the 24 Preludes with contemporary works by the likes of Nino Rota and Chilly Gonzalez, while Seong-jin Cho (see p22) takes on the Piano Concerto No. 2 with the LSO. There’s more to follow from DG, too, with Jan Lisiecki’s own take on the Complete Nocturnes (due for release on 13 Aug).

Chelsea Guo’s Chopin – In My Voice (Orchid Classics, see review, p90) is a fabulous showcase for the talented pianist and singer, who brings together piano works and song. And as for things we haven’t heard quite yet, we’re looking forward to Venezuelan pianist Clara Rodriguez’s recent recording of Piano Sonata No. 3 for the Ulysses Arts label. Then there’s Anna Fedorova’s Shaping Chopin, coming from Channel Classics, and Aimi Kobayashi’s Preludes for

Warner Classics. Both are released on 27 August. So, plenty to look forward to if you’re a Chopin fan. And who isn’t?
