Dante’s anniversary
Some celebratory events Thomas Adès’s (pictured below) Dante ballet, choreographed by Wayne Mcgregor and with designs by Tacita Dean, will be staged 14-30 October at London’s Royal Opera House: tickets are available online at www.roh. org.uk.
If you desire more for Dante’s anniversary year, the Oxford Dante Society in collaboration with TORCH (torch.ox.ac. uk) is hosting a Dante Festival in November, which includes a screening of Harry Lachman’s 1935 film Dante’s Inferno (pictured above) as well as public talks and recitals in the Holywell Music Room.
In Italy, the Ravenna Festival’s 32nd edition is ‘Dedicated to Dante’ and features performances by Riccardo Muti, the Cherubini Orchestra and the Maggio Fiorentino Chorus in Florence – some events are available to stream via ravennafestival. org. The Uffizi Gallery in Florence, meanwhile, has an excellent online exhibition, well worth a visit at www.uffizi.it/en/onlineexhibitions/dante.
