American soprano Karan Armstrong (born 1941) made her debut in San Francisco in a 1965 production of La bohème and went on to work regularly with Deutsche-oper in Berlin after her marriage to director Götz Friedrich. American composer Carlisle Floyd (born 1926) composed and wrote the librettos for over a dozen operas – including 1955’s Susannah. He also co-founded the Houston Opera Studio.
