We reveal who’s recording what and where...

-

Violinist Charlie Siem has just put the finishing touches on a new recording of Beethoven’s Violin Concerto and Romance with the Philharmonia and conductor Oleg Caetani. Due in August on Signum Classics, it comes ahead of a further recording at Sa ron Hall – of sonatas by Vaughan Williams and Grieg – which Signum has on its release roster for February next year.

More Vaughan Williams was in the can at St Jude’s, Hampstead, recently as baritone Roderick Williams joined the London Choral Sinfonia and conductor Michael Waldron for a recording of mainly English song items. It also includes The Lark Ascending, recorded by violinist Elena Urioste, and is set for release by Orchid Classics in June.

Avie Records celebrates its 20th anniversary this year with recordings by both regular artists and some new appointments. The New York Youth Symphony made its debut recording in the midst of pandemic restrictions in the Big Apple, with separate sessions taking place for each section of the ensemble. Its album of music by Florence Price, Jessie Montgomery and Valerie Coleman is out on 8 April.

Also out on 8 April is the first recording in a new partnership announced by the Czech Philharmonic and Pentatone Music. The digital release of Mahler’s Fourth Symphony features the orchestra and soprano Chen Reiss, conducted by Semyon Bychkov. Pentatone will co-produce and release all future recordings by the ensemble.

Henry Wood Hall braced itself for a 90-strong London Symphony Orchestra recently as the ensemble recorded an album of orchestral works by American composer Peter Boyer. Naxos will release the results, which include the works Balance of Power and Fanfare for Tomorrow, in August as part of its ‘American Classics’ series.
