The Art That Made Us
The BBC presents a major new cultural history of the British Isles, exploring how various significant works of music, art, literature and design have helped create and shape our creative history. The eight-part series will air in April on BBC Two and BBC iplayer, accompanied by a nationwide festival, created in collaboration with museums, galleries, libraries and archives, which will take place throughout the month of April.
Members of ensembles such as the Marian Consort and the ORA Singers will join artists, actors, poets and commentators in tracing the stories of innovators and rule-breakers from the cultural history of the British Isles.
The series focuses on specific works of art from all genres that emerged at times of crisis, from the Black Death, Civil War and the religious upheaval of the Reformation to the Industrial Revolution, World Wars and rise of a multicultural society.
