More of the same?
In response to Brian Wise’s A Little Extra feature on the subject of encores (April issue), I think that the choice of encore is important as it has to promote the right mood following the main work. I believe that Sir Thomas Beecham got it absolutely right with his selection of ‘lollipops’, several of which I witnessed at the Royal Festival Hall in 1959/60, and in recent times the soloists performing with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra have often collaborated with members of the orchestra for an encore – a quite delightful WIN! £50 VOUCHER practice.
