Three to look out for…
Bradley Wilson Trumpeter
Born: Dartford, UK Career highlight:
Playing in the Chineke! Orchestra for the Louis Vuitton fashion show under Gustavo Dudamel. Playing the music of a black musician – in this case, Tyler, the Creator – to celebrate the talents of a black designer (Virgil Abloh) was a true honour.
Musical hero: I really relate to the story of composer Samuel Coleridge-taylor, having struggled to fit within two different communities and cultures.
Dream concert: Something for classical music lovers and newbies alike. Perhaps a programme made up of Respighi’s Pines of Rome, Coleridge-taylor’s Ballade in A minor and Fatboy Slim’s Right Here, Right Now.
Charlotte Politi Conductor
Born: Paris, France Career highlight:
Moving to the UK and having the opportunity to be affiliated with great organisations as the Constant Lambert Fellow with the Royal Ballet and Birmingham Royal Ballet, and assistant conductor of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. I immediately felt at home. Everyone is supportive of my artistic and career development
Musical hero: Claudio Abbado drew me into conducting, as I’ve always appreciated his ability to display the structure of a piece. Dream concert: The goal of a concert is always to inspire and elevate audiences, but also to bring joy, beauty and new musical discoveries into their lives.
Pene Pati Tenor
Born: Apia, Samoa Career highlight: Stepping in to perform the title role in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette at the Opéra Comique last year, which tested me mentally, physically and vocally. I was in the midst of performing in Verdi’s
La traviata in Amsterdam and had to learn everything on the train.
Musical hero: Luciano Pavarotti had the quintessential tenor sound, but he also brought opera to the masses and was what was needed to strengthen the art form. Dream concert: I would love to perform with Adele: a pop diva collaborating with a classical divo would be rather exciting!
