Philip Glass’s Akhnaten Following its smash-hit 2019 run (a DVD of which is nominated for this year’s BBC Music Magazine Opera Award), the Metropolitan Opera is to revive Phelim Mcdermott’s production. Anthony Roth Costanzo plays the revolutionary pharaoh, under the baton of Karen Kamensek. Opera on 3: 28 May, 6.30pm
Raga and Tala with Anoushka Shankar Anoushka Shankar guides us through Indian classical music from its roots in Hindu tradition, introducing the traditions of northern Hindustani music, with its emphasis on improvisation, and its more composed southern Carnatic counterpart. Sunday Series: 8, 15 and 22 May, 11pm
Music of Inner Peace and Outer Turmoil Daniel Kidane’s new work Be Still, a ref lection on the spring of 2020 during lockdown, will be performed with Medtner’s Piano Concerto No. 3, written while the composer sought refuge in rural Warwickshire following the Blitz, and Nielsen’s violent Symphony No. 4, composed at the start of World War I.
