Alan Davey, the controller of BBC Radio 3, picks out three great moments to tune into this June

Walton’s Cello Concerto Rising cellist Laura van der Heijden joins the BBC National Orchestra of Wales live at Snape Maltings to revisit Walton’s captivatin­g Cello Concerto – the piece which won her the BBC Young Musician title in 2012. We’ll also be treated to Elizabeth Maconchy’s coronation tone poem, Proud Thames, and Shostakovi­ch’s Symphony No. 10.

Hannah French celebrates the extraordin­ary musician Belinda Sykes, the vibrant leader of medieval folk ensemble Joglaresa who died last year. We’ll hear tributes from her colleagues and collaborat­ors, and landmark recordings from across her boundary-breaking career.
