Classic Porsche

A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE

- Dan Furr Editor @Danfurr

The events of the past few weeks have shocked us all — just as we thought our third attempt at 2020 was going to bring us a summer resembling normality (whatever that is), war has broken out in mainland Europe. Scenes shared across social media by civilians caught up on the conflict — as well as the regular news reports broadcast by brave journalists and camera crews literally in the line of fire — have been harrowing, with viewers’ thoughts turning from shock and horror to questions concerning how long combat will continue and what the long-term implications are for the world, both inside and outside of the battle zone. Whatever the outcome, we’re in for a rocky ride.

Needless to say, I write the introduction to this issue of Classic Porsche well aware of the political climate we currently find ourselves in, but I take some comfort from the fact the contents of the following pages will serve as welcome distraction from what we’re seeing unfold on our tellyboxes. More specifically, although I’m writing these words from the comfort of my home in rural England, I’m not oblivious to the fact Classic Porsche is read in both digital and print formats all over the globe. If you or your loved ones are caught up in the events unfolding in Eastern Europe right now, or if you’re simply trying to make sense of the world being pumped into your lounge through twentyfour-seven blanket news coverage, my thoughts are with you during this difficult time.

On a brighter note, we’ve got a fantastic selection of cars to dazzle you with this month. From the Type 114 F-wagen (widely considered the blueprint for all Porsche production cars), to a heavily modified 914/6, classic Porsche hillclimbers and an ex-jimmy Mcrae 964 Carrera 4 fresh from the Dakar Classic, there’s a great mix of Stuttgart speed metal to entertain and wow you in equal measure. We also take time out to catch up with Tom Fitzsimmons at Border Reivers following his entry into the Monte-carlo Historique with the 356 A we showcased last month, plus we pay a visit to independent marque specialist, RPM Technik, to find out about the company’s passion for aircooled Porsches. Enjoy the magazine.
