I’ve fallen into temptation, admits DLT

- By Arthur Martin

DAVE Lee Travis admitted yesterday he has ‘fallen into temptation’ – but insisted he had never forced himself on a woman.

During his second day in the witness box, the former Radio 1 DJ appeared to confess to cheating on his wife of 42 years Marianne.

Travis was asked by his barrister Stephen Vullo if he had ‘on occasion fallen into temptation’. The 68-year-old replied: ‘I don’t like the fact this is being said. Well yes, of course I’ve fallen once or twice. Consensual, I may add.’ Travis added: ‘I don’t force myself on women ... I’m sorry, that’s just not me.’

Mr Vullo went on to ask Travis if he was ‘the subject of extra-marital attention’ during the ‘height of his powers’ in the 1970s and 1980s.

The DJ said: ‘I don’t like the way this is going, but yes, of course, it was mainly females who came to see the shows so you would be the object of their attention.’ Travis later attacked the decision by the CPS to prosecute him, saying it diverted attention from women who have been ‘beaten up’ or ‘mentally abused’.

‘I’m just sorry about this trial being the way it is because I know it’s a load of nonsense,’ he told Southwark Crown Court.

Travis, who is being tried under his real name Dave Griffin, denies 13 counts of indecent assault between 1976 and 2003 and one of sexual assault in 2008. The trial continues.
