MASON TAKES JUST 31 SECS TO NAIL GOAL

Miguel’s x-rated foul has his Hornets boss Silva fuming over red-card tally

- BY MIKE WALTERS

MATCH of the Day pundit Alan Shearer was right, the horrific redcard tackle by Miguel Britos belonged on Crimewatch.

MOTM ANTHONY KNOCKAERT JOE MASON lost no time in making himself an instant Burton hero with a debut goal after just 31 seconds.

The on-loan Wolves forward came off the bench in the 65th minute and instantly cancelled out Gary Hooper’s opener for Sheffield Wednesday.

Mason said: “I couldn’t have dreamed of a better start.

“It was just instinctive. I didn’t have time to think about it, just to make sure I got a good connection on it and it was nice to see it go in.

“That’s what I want to do here – score as many goals as possible.

“I’m the sort of striker who likes to be in and around the box, that’s where I get most of my goals. And hopefully I can get a few more.”

The point was only the Brewers’ fourth of the season, but enough to keep Nigel Clough’s side out of the drop zone.

Mason added: “Obviously, we’d have liked to have won the game, I thought we had enough chances to do it, but we’ll take the point.

“I did want to come on today and get a goal. I thought there were chances in the game and I thought I would get a chance.”

Wednesday reached the play-offs last term, but are currently plodding around in midtable with just one win so far.

They also had to do without keeper Keiren Westwood, who was forced off after a first-half collision with Marvin Sordell.

Owls boss Carlos Carvalhal said: “I am not happy because I think the challenge was a red card.

“I do not say it was deliberate, but it was late. Although, we must respect the decision of the referee in the game.”
