A cool bag or box is your picnic’s best friend. Make sure you remember to put ice packs in the freezer the night before.

Pack heavier items at the bottom, lighter items at the top.

Invest in some airtight plastic containers, such as Lock & Lock, to avoid spills.

Take a knife, a small light chopping board and plenty of paper towels.

The easiest way to transport homemade tarts and pies is to leave them in their baking tins and wrap well in foil or cling film.

Unless you're having your picnic nearby, make sure that you pack food that has been well chilled.

Don’t forget to add chilled drinks and paper cups or glasses – a thermos will keep drinks cold as well as hot, especially if packed with some ice.

Remember to take a bag for your rubbish.
