One island is never enough

Some of the big-name Greek islands include Crete, Corfu, Rhodes and Santorini whereas on the mainland iconic Athens and the beautiful resort of Parga draw in thousands of tourists every year. But with over 40 locations in Greece, there are many corners of our home that are lesser-known gems just waiting to be discovered. Tiny Islands such as Halki and Paxos offer a taste of “Authentic Greece” where time has stood still. Stylish Spetses where all cars are banned has also been able to retain a true sense of its 10,000-year history whilst Symi with its attractive harbour and breath-taking views remains one of Greece’s best kept secrets.

Culinary wonders of Greece

Each Greek island has its own take on Greece’s traditiona­l dishes, utilising the local produce throughout their dishes. Greek cuisine focuses largely on fresh fish, vegetables, oils and grilled meats using natural flavours. A delicious bowl of the “ubiquitous” Greek salad is probably the most famous dish in the Greek culinary lexicon. They call their salad “horiatiki” or village salad because, like Britain’s ploughman’s, it contains the ingredient­s of a traditiona­l farm worker’s lunch. Experience beachfront tavernas with homemade spanakopit­a, or a freshly wrapped Gyros whilst ambling through narrow streets. Add to that the culinary delights created by Michelin-starred chefs at multi award-winning restaurant­s, taking you on gastronomi­c journeys between old and new recipes.
