Coal and the ‘bozone’ blockade
REGARDING the use of coal in the UK: it is good that it can be still used as it is part of steelmaking and essential in the cement industry too. Also that it can still be used on heritage railways, which as mentioned before, creates a multimillion pound spin off industry while the railways themselves rely on volunteers and constant donations to keep them going.
Here is something that I cannot understand.
As reported in issue 276, we are to stop digging up coal in the UK and start to import a lesser-quality coal from Russia to serve our requirements at a greater cost.
I don’t know how to start to say how I feel about this without going into a rant. Sometimes saying nothing, says it all. There is a new word that does though.
Bozone (noun): the substance surrounding stupid people that stops bright ideas from penetrating. The bozone layer, unfortunately, shows little sign of breaking down in the near future.
Perhaps this applies to whoever decided to reduce British jobs, increase Russia’s economy, while creating a bigger carbon footprint by having to ship it in.
Please, in these unprecedented times, can we let common sense prevail?
