UK Railtours to run memorial charter train

WELWYN-based UK Railtours is planning to run a memorial train in a tribute to the late John Farrow.

The man who formed both Hertfordsh­ire Rail Tours and latterly UK Railtours died of cancer in London’s Royal Free Hospital on April 18, 2020.

His daughter Elizabeth Morris who is running the UK operation said: “UK Railtours are proud to present an incredibly special train to celebrate and remember the life of a great railwayman, respected businessma­n and true gentleman.”

‘The John Farrow Salute’ is booked to depart London Victoria, on Wednesday, August 18 for Sherborne, calling at Staines and Woking – plus a water stop at Salisbury.

Service

On arrival, passengers will be invited to attend a memorial service held in the Dorset town’s abbey a few minutes from the railway station.

The train, pulled by Merchant Navy Pacific No. 35028 Clan Line is expected to run on to the Yeovil Railway Centre to be turned and serviced.

Elizabeth said that the ‘Tinsley Tugger, originally due to operate on May 29 will, subject to final confirmati­on, run on Saturday, July 24.

Similarly, the ‘Derbyshire Rose’, which had been scheduled for June 19, has been postponed until Saturday October 2, again subject to final confirmati­on.

Tours which remain unaffected include ‘The Aln Valley Venturer’ on Saturday, August 7 and the ‘Merchant of Norfolk’ with Clan Line on Saturday, August 28.

Now reopened for business between 10am and 2pm, UK Railtours’ office is open Mondays to Fridays, except Wednesdays.
