Dreweatts’ support cast puts on a strong showing

WITH six model locomotive­s and a rake of coaches achieving the top prices of up to £13,000 in Dreweatts'Transport Sale on April 20, as reported in the news section of this issue, models further down the line also made their mark, including a duo at £4000 each comprising a 5in gauge live steam GER T26 class 2-4-0 No. 490 and an award-winning 3½in gauge First World War carriage-mounted railway gun.

A bid of £3800 secured LNER A4 No. 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley in gauge 1 live steam, and four models in three different gauges each selling for £3200 were LMS Princess Coronation No. 46232 Duchess of Montrose and GWR No. 5015 Kingswear Castle, both in gauge 1, a 5in gauge GWR Manor, and National Coal Board 0-6-0ST No. 5 Dragoon in 7¼in gauge.

Among the £3000 realisatio­ns were a gauge 1 No. 6000 King George V and an unnumbered Great Northern Railway 4-2-2 ‘Stirling single' in 3½in gauge, while in hot pursuit came another unnumbered model, of a 5in gauge GWR 1500 class 0-6-0PT (£2800). Prices exclude buyer's premium of 25% (+ VAT ).

Michael Matthews, Dreweatts' steam and model engineerin­g consultant, said: “We had more than 370 bidders, including from the USA and Europe. It was most positive, and our best ever such sale for prices.”
