‘Green’ emissions at Watchet?

-

WE'VE all taken them at some stage in our lives – the sort of image you snap in an instant to ‘get a photo' because one of the loves of your life (steam locomotives) is before your very eyes and you want to record that moment for posterity.

When you review it, you have to pinch yourself that you were under the influence of steam rather than any other substance.

Reader Geoff Swaine writes: “I took this photo a few years ago of GWR 2-6-2T No. 4160 arriving at Watchet station on the West Somerset Railway with a train for Minehead. I have never known what to do with it, but it might be suitable for inclusion in the Next Stop.”

Your deputy editor's view is that it's best to laugh these things off and to see the funny side. With that in mind, it appears the tree is coming out of the chimney. In the age of heightened awareness of ‘green' issues, might this provide inspiration for the future? The challenge will be seeing the wood for the trees… To ‘top things off,' perhaps a root and branch review is required. Any other suggestions?

Do you have photos like this you'd like to share with us? If so, we'd be delighted to hear from you.
