THE Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway hosted a double celebration on September 4 when Krupp 4-6-2 No. 11 Black Prince returned to traffic after seven years and the new heritage centre at New Romney was opened.

General manager Danny Martin welcomed Paul Thomas, the Mayor of New Romney, to cut the ribbon to declare the centre open.

The association worked during the lockdown to complete the installation of panels and showcases inside the centre, set up inside the old New Romney paint shop.

After Black Prince (picture, page 106),YEC 4-6-2 No. 10 Doctor Syn will be the next locomotive to be overhauled.

RHDR Association trustee Nigel Whitburn said: “The funding of the rebuild of Black Prince is an example of our ongoing financial support and now the establishment of the heritage centre achieves another of our aims.”
