Worth Valley pays tribute to Falklands 40 years on

-

A SPECIAL event to mark the 40th anniversary of the Falkland Islands conflict with Argentina is to be held at Ingrow on the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway on Saturday, May 14.

The Railway Correspondence and Travel Society and the Bahamas Locomotive Society, owner of LMS Jubilee 4-6-0 No. 45596 Bahamas are to stage the event at 2pm.

The RCTS has loaned the nameplate from sister Jubilee No. 45606 Falkland Islands (left) to be carried by No. 45596 for the occasion.

The event will see several Falkland Islands veterans commemorate their participation in the conflict, which began on April 2, 1982, followed by the invasion of South Georgia the next day.

The undeclared war lasted 74 days, during which the UK government despatched a task force to reclaim the islands.
