Join The Monobloc Club to complete Britain’s most powerful new-build

-

THE builder of new Gresley P2 2-8-2 No. 2007 Princes of Wales has relaunched its appeal to reach the £250,000 target to complete the cylinder block.

Launched in July last year, The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust’s ‘The Cylinder Manufacturing Club’ has been now been renamed ‘The Monobloc Club’, marking a shift in focus to draw attention to the unique fabrication and raise its profile.

Production of the block is well underway at Howco in Irvine, and delivery is expected this summer.

However, more funds are needed to complete this core element of the P2 project.

A spokesman said: “We do not want to slow the pace of the P2 build, so all contributions towards Prince of Wales are greatly appreciated.

“To date, more than £4 million has been spent of the estimated £6 million required to complete No. 2007 within the next three years. This is testament to the generosity our loyal supporters. In order to keep to this schedule, we must complete the cylinder block by this summer. Please consider joining The Monobloc Club today and help us to complete Britain’s most powerful steam locomotive in record time.

“We have a way to go to reach our £250,000 club target!”

Every member of The Monobloc Club is being invited to visit the Irvine factory to view progress on the fabrication and speak with both the Howco and P2 engineers. A tour is planned to start at 11am on Thursday, May 26, with lunch provided.

“With the cylinder block, tender frames and boiler all due for delivery this year, there has never been a better time to get on board with the P2 project,” the spokesman added.
