Kayaks bring Manx Electric trams to a stop

-

WATER transport brought the Manx Electric Railway grinding to a halt.

On July 20, a road recovery vehicle carrying a Land Rover with several kayaks stacked high was believed to have brought down several overhead power lines and poles between in Baldrine.

Isle of Man Transport closed the line between Derby Castle in Douglas and Laxey while its engineering team assessed the work needed to reinstate the power lines and poles. A shuttle bus was laid on to cover the closed section of line.

Meanwhile, timetabled services between Laxey and Ramsey continued, and Snaefell Mountain Railway services were unaffected.

However, the next night, more than 200 yards of the power cables were stolen after being left by the roadside between Liverpool Arms and Baldrine. Police were investigating.
