Appeal for London’s newest heritage line’s engine repairs

- By Robin Jones

THE Royal Arsenal Narrow Gauge (RANG) Railway at Crossness Engines Trust, Abbeywood, London, has launched an emergency £10,000 appeal to fund essential repairs to its only operational locomotive.

Bazalgette, a 1986-built SevernLamb steam outline diesel, needs repairs to both the front and rear hydraulic drive motors and an overhaul of the primary pump before it can run again.

A RANG statement said: “The train ride has become a ‘little gem’ in

Abbeywood, with many compliments from passengers about their amazement that a train track such as this exists on their doorstep, right beside the River Thames.

“We now desperately need your help to ensure the four-plus years that the enthusiastic volunteers have spent restoring and constructing have not been in vain.”

More than £5000 had been raised for Bazalgette as we closed for press, and there is a range of incentives for donors. To donate to the appeal, visit www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/ rangrailway
