CHOOSE THE SHOE
01. Find your fit
Blisters are the enemy of good times, which is why it’s crucial to find a perfect fit. Try on shoes with the socks you’re likely to be wearing and make sure there’s a thumb’s gap at the back.
02. Know your needs
Decide what the most important factors are for you. If you want something good at absorbing shock, look for chunky soles; if you need more ankle support, opt for taller boots.
03. Test the water
Planning on venturing out in all conditions? Check the waterproofing credentials – some boots will claim only to be ‘water-resistant’, which is useless in a blizzard.
04. Style or stiles?
Lots of performance boots aren’t made for the high street, but you’ll be laughed at wearing fashion footwear on a hike. Do you need walking boots, smart boots or something in-between?
