It’s dandruff. ‘It’s caused by an overgrowth of yeast on the skin,’ says dermatologist Dr Raymond Kleinfelder.
That yeast thrives on moisture; stress, sweat and the wrong haircare products can all lead to you having dandruff. ‘Grab an antiyeast, antifungal shampoo that contains selenium sulphide or zinc pyrithione,’ says Dr Kleinfelder. Massage it into your scalp and let it sit for a minimum of five minutes so that the ingredients can do their thing.
