£50 ‘not enough’ at Sainsbury’s
SAINSBURY’S “feed your family for £50” ad campaign has been BANNED after a series of complaints from angry parents.
The telly, magazine and internet adverts were found to be “misleading” by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) which launched an investigation.
The adverts claimed: “at Sainsbury’s you can now feed a family of four, for a week, for just 50 quid” and added: “28 Breakfasts, 28 Lunches, 28 Dinners, 1 Happy Family”.
Some people questioned whether the £50 would provide enough food and said it wasn’t clear that ‘storecupboard essentials’ were extra.
The firm said the plans were devised to provide on average at least 75 per cent of calorie requirements.
However, the ASA found the adverts to be in breach of rules.
