OAP’S lucky escape from blazing mobi
A WOMAN had a lucky escape after her mobility scooter caught FIRE during a shopping trip.
Disabled Brenda Nippress, 62, had just come out of Tesco when her scooter stopped in the middle of a ramp outside the store and burst into flames.
Passers-by rushed to help her off the burning vehicle, which was hired from Shopmobility, before fire crews arrived.
Multiple sclerosis sufferer Brenda, of Stratton, Wilts, said: “My scooter stopped dead on the little slope by Tesco, went ‘bang’ and cut out. I turned around and saw smoke pouring out the back.
“One young girl was brilliant. She helped me off the scooter and got me to the wall a few steps away.
“I was in tears. The fire was terrible and no-one could believe how fast it went up.
“There is nothing left of it. The fire brigade was brilliant and put it all out.”
A spokesman from Swindon Council, which runs Shopmobility, said they will be carrying out an investigation.
