PAP IS SHEAR CLASS!

-

Shearer would have been purring about him, because he has been tremendous in everything he’s done.”

Toon chief scout Graham Carr had been tracking Cisse for FIVE years before finally landing his man, starting during a spell with Sven Goran Eriksson’s Man City backroom staff in 2007.

Carr revealed: “I saw Papiss Cisse play in France for Metz when he first came over from Senegal. “He didn’t have a passport to come into the UK, so that ruled him out at the time. “I kept a watching brief and he scored 20-odd goals two years ago in the Bundesliga.

“He was liked by Bayern Munich and Freiburg wanted £15m when we first enquired, and then it was £12m.

“We actually got him here for £8m, which we thought was value for money.”

Newcastle are set to step up their interest in FC Twente defender Douglas Teixeira.

The Brazilian, 24, has told Twente boss Steve Mcclaren he wants to quit Dutch football for a crack at the Premier League.

Toon are hoping to snap him up quickly.
