Class 86 leads LSL’s final ‘Friday Charter’

- MIKE GORST.

86101 Sir William A Stanier FRS (with 90001 Royal Scot on the rear) arrives at Wolverhampton on September 30 with the ‘Friday Charter’. Locomotive Services Ltd had begun offering two regular charter journeys each Friday from August 19, using its 110mph Intercity-liveried locomotives and First Class coaches. An afternoon non-stop Crewe-London Euston service was then followed by an evening (1727 dep) Euston-Manchester Piccadilly trip, calling at Birmingham International, Birmingham New Street, Wolverhampton, Crewe and Wilmslow. A flat fare of £75 was charged. Despite confirming additional dates in mid-September for the ‘Friday Charter’ to run through to (and including) December 9, it was discontinued after its September 30 outing.
