New OLE infrastructure installed at Carstairs

TransPennine Express 397009 passes beneath a mixture of old and new overhead line equipment at Carstairs on September 24, with a Glasgow Central-Manchester Airport service. The new spans have been installed in preparation for a major blockade in the area in early 2023. It forms part of a scheme to provide a new freight loop and additional signalling equipment to enable faster running at what is currently a bottleneck. Speed restrictions are currently in place between Carstairs East Junction and the North and South junctions, although realignment of the current track configuration will remove these problems.
