Track defects on Fen Line repaired

-

Evening services were heavily curtailed on the Fen Line between Ely and King's Lynn from September 26-October 4, to enable Network Rail to repair track defects caused by record temperatures this summer.

Speed restrictions had been in place since the prolonged spell of hot and dry weather caused the peaty ground beneath the line to shrink, while engineers have also been working to realign the track above.

To complete the work as quickly as possible, NR and Govia Thameslink Railway made the decision to close the line from 2045 each weekday evening, with the last trains running from Ely and King's Lynn at around 2000.
