Reading Green Park on target for spring opening
The first new station in Reading since 1906 is on schedule to open in spring 2023.
Developed by Reading Borough Council, Great Western Railway and Network Rail, Reading Green Park sits on the Reading-Basingstoke line and will benefit from a half-hourly service during the day.
The overall budget for the two-platform station is currently £20.077 million, with funding provided from sources including Thames Valley Berkshire Local Enterprise Partnership (circa £10m) and the Department for Transport (£4.8m). A further £5.6m has come from Section 106 developer contributions.
It is hoped that the new station will alleviate congestion on the A33 and offer a more sustainable way for Reading football fans to travel to home matches at the Madejski Stadium, while improving accessibility to the south Reading area when largescale development is taking place - including the expansion of the Green Park Business Park and Green Park Village.
