Eurostar award demonstrates value of catering
On November 10, Eurostar was awarded the highest possible rating from the Sustainable Restaurant Association (SRA) for its onboard catering, as it celebrates ten years in partnership with Michelin star chef Raymond Blanc.
I gather that research commissioned by Eurostar demonstrates the important relationship between cuisine and travel, with 61% of British travellers saying that one of the things they rated most highly on rail journeys is the food.
I assume this all relates to Eurostar’s Business Premier Class, where full meals are included. Nevertheless, to me it speaks volumes about the total lack of interest shown by most internal operators in catering of any description.
LNER is one of the better ones. Yes, Great Western Railway has a handful of restaurant cars on Mon-Fri, but on most services you’ll be lucky to get a sandwich.
