First DLR B90 sent for scrap

Docklands Light Railway has despatched its first passenger vehicle for scrap in its 35-year history.

B90 car 39 was moved by road from Beckton depot to Booths of Rotherham on October 27, having been out of service since May 2016 and heavily cannibalised for spares.

The 23-strong B90 fleet, built by BN Construction (later Bombardier and now Alstom) in 1991, is to be superseded by 43 new CAF vehicles that are due to enter service in 2024, a year late.

In the past, redundant DLR cars have gone for export. The 21 P86s and P89s now run on the Essen Stadtbahn in Germany.
