In June 1979 a Deltic worked to Liverpool Lime Street, after which they were regularly to be seen on Trans-pennine workings from York, particularly towards the end of their careers when they often worked a proving run on Thursday or Friday before a weekend’s railtours.

Photography on the Standedge route between Huddersfield and Stalybridge was a particular favourite of mine. With a background of moorland and rugged Pennine housing, 55017 The Durham Light Infantry approaches Paddock and slowing for its stop at Huddersfield while working the 13.05 Liverpool

Lime Street to York service on October 18, 1980.

In May 1979, all the Deltics allocated to Haymarket and Gateshead were moved to York. In May 1981, the remaining Deltics at Finsbury Park were also moved to York when Finsbury Park closed as a maintenance depot.
