Ballymoss at Beeston, Leeds, on May 18, 1977.

-

The year 1977 produced a lot of Deltic pictures and May 18 was no exception, having got a few pictures during the late morning and also in the afternoon between survey work I had been doing in the

Bradford and Ardsley areas. The late afternoon was equally sunny and after twitching in the office for a few hours I went to the Beeston area of south Leeds to get a progression of trains in the early evening, at least two of which were expected to be Deltic hauled.

Finsbury Park’s 55018 Ballymoss had been photographed earlier in the day at Ardsley on the 11.25 London King’s Cross to Leeds and, as expected, it worked the 17.30 Leeds to London King’s Cross, which is seen here storming past the site of what was Beeston Junction, with the train seemingly formed of a mixture of Mk.1 and Mk.2 coaches.
