Ballymoss passing Doncaster Plant on May 30, 1978.

-

Doncaster was a magnet for photographers. With the busy lines through the station running virtually due north/south, and with road overbridges at both the north and south ends of the station, excellent pictures could be taken in the morning and again from mid-afternoon. Looking north from Hexthorpe

Road bridge on the morning of May 30, 1978, 55018 Ballymoss, a Finsbury Park Deltic, which I seemed to photograph regularly, is leaving with the 07.05 Edinburgh to London King’s Cross. A Class 56 and a Class 50 are standing outside the plant, with a Class 37 in the distance.

On this particular morning I had managed to get a few hours off work between surveys I had been doing near Wakefield. Among others, three separate Deltic-hauled trains were photographed.
